Gilroy – Police are seeking applicants for the annual Citizen Police Academy, a 10-week course that teaches the A to Z of local law enforcement. Applications are available at the Gilroy Police Department, or can be requested over the phone from Community Service Officer Maribel Gutierrez, who is running the program for the fourth time.

Participants must be at least 18 years old, free of felony convictions, have no misdemeanor arrests in the past year, and live or work within Gilroy’s city limits. Background checks are also run on each applicant. Deadline is Jan. 31.

Colorguard competition

Gilroy – Gilroy High School will be the site of a colorguard show from 6:30 to 8:30pm Saturday, featuring Gilroy, Live Oak and San Benito high schools, as well as others from throughout the Bay Area. Tickets are $8 for adults, and $5 for students, seniors and children.

Remembering World War II

Gilroy – The people who lived through World War II were known as the ‘Greatest Generation.’ Whether they served in the military or waited at home, all of them were affected in life-changing ways.

Share or listen to memories about experiences on the WWII home or war fronts at 1:30pm, Jan 24 at the Gilroy Library, Sixth and Rosanna streets. Tell the stories behind letters, photographs and treasures from World War II or a memory of a friend or relative.
