Jose Lizardi Diaz died in his home on Aug. 24. He was 92 years old.
Diaz was born on Sept. 18, 1910, in Jalisco, Mexico. He immigrated to California in 1928 and has lived in Gilroy since 1945. He was a farm laborer for many Gilroy Ranchers. Through retirement he was an active gardener. His hobbies included entertaining his family, playing his guitar and drawing.
He is survived by his loving wife Mary Diaz of 65 years and by his two brothers and two sisters. He was the loving father of John Diaz, Joe Diaz Jr., Maggie Diaz, Alice Lamson, Richard Diaz, Irene Lujan Trinidad, Gloria Ayala, Virginia Martinez and Erma Charles. He is also survived by 37 grandchildren, 79 great grandchildren and 19 great-great grandchildren.
Services are scheduled for Friday at St. Mary’s Church in Gilroy. Vigil will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. and mass from 1 to 2 p.m. Interim will follow at First Baptist Church.
The family requests donations instead of flowers.
