The lesson will be followed by dinner, which in turn will be followed by hours of dancing. MORGAN HILL – Guglielmo Winery will hold Cork Equity Day No. 4 featuring a special wine available only at the event. Bring a clean bottle, fill it yourself, and save money on the Cavalcade Cellar Red – a blend of 42 percent cabernet sauvignon, 33 percent 2001 merlot and 18 percent 2001 zinfandel that the winery estimates would cost $13 to $15 per 750 ml bottle in stores. The winery will have a tasting preview for the Cavalcade Cellar Red on Saturday and Sunday in its tasting room, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Drop by the tasting room and ask for a sample. SANTA CRUZ – The Seymour Marine Discovery Center at the Long Marine Laboratory in Santa Cruz is offering a volunteer opportunity for teens and adults this summer. Members of the Summer Apprentice Guide program assist visitors of all ages at the seawater table, where visitors can touch sea life, and in the aquarium and exhibit hall. The guides work alongside experienced docents and will learn about the animals in the Monterey Bay. They’ll also get valuable public speaking skills and will meet people from all over the world. SANTA CRUZ – Roy Hargrove, a jazz trumpeter, will bring his quintet and his bop- and blues-influenced music to the Kuumbwa Jazz Center Monday. The 34-year-old trumpeter won a Grammy for his 1997 album “Habana,” and has appeared on the Grammy-winning album “Voodoo.”
Hargrove began playing the trumpet in fourth grade, and at age 16, he began to study at the Booker T. Washington School for the Visual and Performing Arts. Wynton Marsalis heard Hargrove play while visiting the school, and helped him get performing opportunities. Hargrove attended Berklee College of Music for about a year, but left for the New York music scene. His debut album, “Diamond in the Rough” appeared on the RCA/Novus label in 1990. He is now on the Verve label. Hargrove plays Monday, May 17 at 7 p.m. and 9 p.m.at Kuumbwa Jazz Center, 320-2 Cedar St., Santa Cruz. Tickets are $20 in advance and $23 at the door.
