Dear Editor,

The Gilroy Chamber of Commerce held their annual trade show, “Cruise to Success'” on Sept. 1 in downtown Gilroy. We would like to thank the City of Gilroy staff and Mayor Al Pinheiro, for their efforts in re-scheduling the chip and seal along Monterey Street to accommodate the event.

In an effort to curtail costs, the city contracts with the county to do this work; however, often the work schedule is not communicated with the city until a few days in advance.

Not only did the trade show go off without a hitch, downtown Gilroy has a very attractive chip and seal job, and the striping will be completed soon for a fresh new look for our historic downtown. Please give the city and our mayor a pat on the back for all their efforts in revitalizing our downtown. There is a great deal of activity taking place in our downtown, and it is through the commitment of the city that things are getting done.
