Dear Editor,

In early January of this year, the officers of the Gilroy High School Parents Club met with Principal Bob Bravo concerning the poor behavior of some teachers at our monthly meetings.

In that meeting, we presented Mr. Bravo with specific instances, which he personally witnessed, that we believed were undermining the credibility and effectiveness of the Parents Club.

I personally expressed my belief that Mr. Bravo was the key to a positive relationship between the Parents Club and his staff; that if the staff of GHS believed we had his support, they would be more likely to offer their support or at least not be openly hostile and disrespectful. Mr. Bravo completely disagreed and said he would not intervene on our behalf.

That said, we realized that as parent volunteers, we would receive no assistance from the GHS administration and we were effectively cut off at the knees. However, we continued to volunteer in an effort to support the teachers and to improve the high school. I resigned my position as secretary in February after pulling my son out of GHS.

Now the high school has lost two more wonderfully committed volunteers who’s only goal was to support and assist their child’s school.

What is going on here? Where is the leadership? Where has the common sense and good judgment of the GHS administration gone? Does this begin at the GUSD level? I believe these are all questions that we as taxpaying citizens and parents must begin asking.
