Gilroy – The Gavilan women’s softball team improved to 14-10 and 5-5 in conference with a 4-3 win over CCS opponent Hartnell Friday.

“If we continue to play as well as we have, we might have an outside chance at a berth in the Nor Cal playoffs,” said coach Tim Kenworthy. “Nevertheless, game in and game out we’ve been playing very good softball this season and I’m very proud of these gals.”

A Justine McDonald double in the first inning drove in Courtney Colianna to give Gavilan a 1-0 lead. In the sixth inning, Amanda Jackson added to the lead by ripping a double off the center field fence and driving in Colianna and Katrina Villa.

Pitcher Destinee Powers, who went six innings and earned the win, held Hartnell hitless until the bottom of the sixth when the Panthers scored two runs off three hits. Colianna earned the save by working her way out of a bases loaded jam in the bottom of the seventh with a strikeout and a groundout.
