GILROY – With only one blemish on its league record, the Anchorpoint Christian softball team secured a share of the Coastal Athletic League title by winning its last three games of the season.
Finishing with a 10-4 record overall, 7-1 in the CAL, the Lady Warriors shared the title with Anzar after splitting games during the season.
“We were hoping for a shot at [the Central Coast Section playoffs], but we are pretty happy with our season and sharing a league title with Anzar,” Anchorpoint coach Alicia Hernandez said.
The Lady Warriors’ offense came alive in the final three games, as they outscored their opponents 41-12 in that span. Winning the final home game of the season against Greenfield 16-6, Anchorpoint had a long list of contributors at the plate.
Shayna Osuna went 3-for-4 with two singles and a home run, Chelsey Urbanski was 3-for-5 with two home runs, Adrianna Osuna had a home run while going 3-for-4 and Ellen Pearce went 1-for-3 with a double.
Kristi Osuna pitched her final game as a Lady Warrior, going five innings while giving up five hits and striking out three. Danielle Kinoshita closed out the game with five strikeouts while only allowing one hit.
The game marked the final home contest in the careers of six seniors.
“We are losing the core of our team, and hopefully next year we can build off our returning players,” Hernandez said. “We have a year to work on that. We are really going to miss the seniors we are losing.”
Several Anchorpoint players had outstanding numbers to finish the season. Pearce finished with a .595 batting average and six home runs, Adrianna Osuna hit .628 with five home runs, Shayna Osuna had four home runs while batting .494, and Kristi Osuna finished with a .395 average. Urbanski was a First Team all-league selection last season but was injured for most of the league schedule this year, making her two home runs in the final game an especially sweet send-off.
