Leadership Gilroy programs unveiled

Roughly 70 people attended the Gilroy Leadership & Education Foundation’s “Level Up” event that unveiled several new Leadership Gilroy programs last Thursday in the Old City Hall in Gilroy.

“We are proud of the Leadership Gilroy program the organization has delivered for the past 15 years,” said organization president Barb Granter. “Based on this groundwork, we now have the opportunity to offer more to the community with increased programs.”

Mayor Don Gage was on hand to cut the ribbon after Granter, who is also vice president of Gilroy Gardens, provided an overview of the new programs.

The new offerings for Leadership Gilroy include:

•Level 2: A six-month program that offers a one-on-one mentor relationship for advanced skills.

•Continuing Education: Workshops, seminars, webinars and events open to the entire community.

•Corporate Education: Custom training for companies in the region to address their specific needs.

Granter also announced the creation of an Alumni Association for the roughly 250 graduates interested in public service who have taken part in Leadership Gilroy’s programs. The 9-month Leadership Gilroy program will now be aligned with the school year and run from October to June, said Granter. The 2014 class will begin in October 2013 and a new website has been created by ABD Promotions of Gilroy.

Program Director Denise Martin was named executive director by the board and will assist in driving the new initiatives.
