Last Saturday at 3:50am my wife and I were awakened by loud noises. My daughter was asleep in her room. I found a 20-something year-old, hooded, male trying to kick in our front door.
After about five minutes of a very tense situation, Gilroy Police arrived without sirens or lights. By this time, it became apparent the individual was under the influence. The first officer, weapon drawn, approached slowly and spoke politely. The individual complied with each direction and was placed under arrest without further incident.
A couple of years ago Gilroy Police was involved in a pursuit that culminated at our corner. There were lights, sirens, yelling and dogs barking. One of the individuals had fled into the backyard of our neighbor who has two young children. After about five minutes the individual, still attempting to evade, was located. He got a gun pointed in his face, had a little encounter with the police dog and was forcefully taken into custody.
When someone commits a crime, complying with law enforcement is not a sign of weakness. It’s a simple gesture to the arresting officer that you aren’t about to commit another one.
