Avenue.
Dear Editor,
I do not believe that there is any justification for the extension of Santa Teresa Boulevard from Main Avenue to DeWitt Avenue. I have lived in the area for 13 years and there is no traffic issue in that area, no safety concerns and certainly no blight, which might justify “redevelopment.”
Instead, it is a lovely, small, open-space greenbelt where wild animals are free to roam. If this project is completed, it will require another stop sign on West Dunne Avenue, in very close proximity to the existing stop sign at West Dunne and Peak avenues. This could cause cars to block one of those intersections when cars stop at the next one.
From the drawing that I saw, it appears that those of us who live west of DeWitt will have to drive down West Dunne in order to get on Santa Teresa (going south) because there did not appear to be any way to enter at Spring Avenue. That means that we are adding more pollutants to the air (extra driving). The downtown needs four lanes on Monterey Road. It is a busy and much needed part of Morgan Hill. If the lanes are restricted to two, there will be cars idling and creating pollution. That is certainly not conducive to getting people to enjoy downtown. If lanes are restricted to two, many people may not go at all, thus impacting the businesses.
I believe that the council should follow the wishes of the residents who have shown that they prefer to not extend Santa Teresa and to leave Monterey Road at four lanes but to complete the Butterfield extension to Watsonville Road.
