Dear editor:
In true liberal fashion with blinders on the eyes of history, Ms. Stephanie Pires arrives at some very faulty conclusions regarding President Bush in her letter of July 1.
Let’s analyze what she said. She wrote: “Nixon went against his political enemies.” True. But so did Lyndon Johnson, and a host of other presidents including Mr. Bush’s ignominious predecessor, William Jefferson Clinton.
She wrote: “Bush has duped the entire populace of the United States for only the most corrupt motives and basest of reasons.” Really, Ms. Pires? I’ve not been duped, and I suspect that tens of millions of other well educated US citizens who consider themselves patriots have not been duped either. You say the “entire populace?” In logic, Ms. Pires, that’s called faulty generalization.
You wrote: “He has begun the murder of thousands of people in another country, including now hundreds of our citizens.” This Ms. Pires, is typical liberal tactic of steering the facts. You totally and completely omit the established facts and testimony of history dealing with the ‘reign of terror’ of Sadaam Hussein’s former government. You completely omit the facts of the tens/hundreds of thousands of innocent people murdered by the former Iraqi dictator. You omit the facts of his torture of innocent people, through cruel and truly unusual punishment. All of this is documented. But you Ms. Pires, as a true liberal-socialist, don’t have anything to say about this — do you? And your lack of silence on these facts, is at best naive and at worst, dishonest.
And if your referral to the “hundreds of our citizens” who you claim have been “murdered,” then I must assume you mean members of our armed forces — who, Ms. Pires, join the armed forces on their own free will, with the understanding that they might lose their lives in the service to their country. That Ms. Pires, is called “commitment to duty.” So don’t make that a straw-man issue.
You then say: “He has allowed people of dubious character…to begin a secret war against citizens of this country.” Dubious character? Please Ms. Pires, what about the “dubious character” of William Jefferson Clinton, Janet Reno, and the host of others that were in high positions in the Clinton Administration, that the record shows to be of dubious character? Secret war? Of course, everything is a vast right-wing conspiracy, just like Ms. Hillary Clinton said it was — right Ms. Pires? Your liberal yardstick is measuring microns and overlooking meters.
Your final insult is to state that Mr. Bush has “fronted people like Condoleeza Rice and Colin Powell…” Fronted them? These are highly intelligent, well-qualified people who are leaders of substance, and not “air-heads” like Janet Reno and Madeline Albright, et.al.
You conclude by stating: “I am appalled.” Well, that’s your Constitutional right to be appalled. But I’ll tell you that I’m appalled at your apparent lack of knowledge of Iraqi history, and the lack of proof of your arguments.
Mr. Bush is not perfect. But he does not have a yellow-streak down his back when it comes to dealing with an enemy of the United States, like his liberal predecessor had, and my opinion, still does.
