Dear Editor,

Though it was no surprise to all who knew what the outcome would be, it was the best choice for the school and the community to hire Tim Pierleoni as the new head football coach at Christopher High School.

Tim has the heart, knowledge and “fire” to install a program that will put CHS on the right track.

Coach Pierleoni is “straight up hard nose football” and deserves the outright respect of others. My son will start his freshman year under Tim and is looking forward to being on the same field with him. I have told my son the stories of the days when I played as an underclassman to his brother, Steve, who was fearless on the playing field. That all came with the help of Tim.

These young men coming to the gridiron will experience firsthand wisdom, devotion, team and winning.

I am also glad to see Skip Bloom, who will be at his side. That coaching team makes a great one-two punch! Good luck, coach!

California Foreclosure Prevention Act should help homeowners

Dear Editor,

Please alert your readers to passage of SB 7, which was approved by the governor on Feb. 20 and becomes effective on May 20, named the “California Foreclosure Prevention Act.”

This new statute modifies existing California foreclosure law. Note, however, that it does not prevent nonjudicial foreclosure; rather, it delays them, in certain circumstances, for an additional 90 days. Note, also, that the Act does not apply to all mortgages. It is limited to loans that were recorded between Jan. 1, 2003 and Jan. 1, 2008, on borrower-occupied dwellings as the borrower’s principal residence, if the mortgage is the first (senior) deed of trust on the property.

So, for example, non-owner occupied properties, e.g., income property, vacation property, is not covered by the Act. Also, if the loan is a junior (e.g., second mortgage), then the Act does not apply to the loan. If the loan was recorded before Jan. 1, 2003 or after Jan. 1, 2008, then the Act does not apply.

Additionally, the lender may apply for an exemption from the Act if the lender has established a loan modification program, as defined in the Act. Then, if the application is granted, the lender need not comply with the Act.

As always in debtor-creditor matters, a competent attorney should be consulted by both borrowers and lenders. Accepting the advice of persons who are not licensed to practice law is asking for more trouble than you already have.

GHS grad night really needs your financial support to keep it going

Dear Editor,

Every year for the last 21 years, Gilroy High School students have enjoyed a safe memorable “Grad Night” hosted by the parents and community through donations and fund-raisers. The seniors can’t leave once they arrive; they spend the night playing games, getting prizes, watching movies, eating, etc. Only senior class members are invited. They have one last party together and memories for a lifetime. In 1988 parents got together and established “Grad Night” due to the huge problem with drinking and driving by the seniors on graduation night and the precious lives lost.

This year because of the economy “Grad Night” fundraising has been especially difficult.

We think the Grad Night Party is important, and we hope you do as well. If you enjoyed your Graduation Night as one of Gilroy High School’s graduates in the last 21 years or had a family member who benefited from a safe and memorable experience, we hope you would pay it forward to this graduating class.

We need your help Gilroy. Please send donations to: GHS Grad Night 2009, P.O. BOX 545, Gilroy, CA 95020; Tax ID# 77-0123255
