Teen Poll Worker Very Impressive, Hard Working and Worthy of Praise

Dear Editor,

With all of the horrible things one hears about the behavior of teenagers, I felt it necessary to write this letter about the opposite end of the spectrum. I want to commend Arrianna Asevedo.

On Nov. 7, Arrianna worked at the Sunrise Fire Station with my husband and I as a poll worker. She was there the evening of Nov. 6 to assist the four of us with setting up the polling place and was back again bright and early at 6am on Tuesday. I don’t now if Arrianna received any type of school credit for her work or anything else. Whatever she received it was not enough.

She is a very personable, intelligent and hard working young woman. Without her assistance things would not have gone so smoothly as they did. She was always pleasant with a smile for everyone. Whatever needed doing she was right there pitching in. No one ever had it as her to help. If anything she anticipated what was needed and was right there with it. Her parents should be very proud. It was a privilege to meet her and work with her.

View Toward Animals Speaks Volumes About Supervisor, County Exec

Dear Editor,

I am sorely disappointed in Santa Clara County Supervisor Don Gage, County Executive Pete Kutras et al for their lack of action in regards to the desperately needed new animal shelter.

Remember this quote, “The purity of a persons heart can be quickly measured by how they regard animals.”

Dogs, Cats, Responsibility and a Word or Two on the City’s Municipal Code

Dear Editor,

I wanted to say a word or two regarding the kitty attack article. I have two dogs, a cat, and a bird so I do fall in the category of animal lover. I do feel extremely bad and sad when any of our animals get hurt.

That said, many people would like to quote the city codes regarding dogs and that they have to be on leashes and such and I have no problem with that. It’s a law and we all need to obey it. However, here’s another section of the law that a lot of folks don’t know about, municipal code, section 4.35 (b) which articulates that the same law which applies to dogs to be under the supervision of their owners by means of having them on leashes, holds cat owners responsible to have them restricted to inside their homes or properties.

The article did a good job in making the cat owners the innocent people that had done nothing wrong to deserve this vicious attack.

Well, the bottom line is that we all are responsible in ways that we may not like to hear about, and I hope that a lesson has been learned and passed on to the children that were affected by this incident. Now, if and when it is proven that this dog is vicious and too dangerous to be around our neighborhoods, then section 4.30 of the city municipal code will deal with it. Until then, let’s not throw every pit bull in the same category of vicious killer dogs.
