Dear Editor,
Your story about abysmal Gilroy High School college readiness is
truly heartbreaking. It shows lack of accountability across school
system from the principal down.
Where’s mayor’s forum on grads not being ready for college?

Dear Editor,

Your story about abysmal Gilroy High School college readiness is truly heartbreaking. It shows lack of accountability across school system from the principal down.

I hold the principal and all teachers accountable for this travesty. Please ask the principal what is his action plan. This should be city of Gilroy’s top priority. I suggest an open forum by the mayor to address this urgent issue with everyone involved. The time is NOW!

Community comes through at Exchange Club auction event

Dear Editor,

On Nov. 6, the Exchange Club of Gilroy held their annual Harvest Dinner/Auction. The evening’s purpose was fourfold – to reinforce the fact that we are a powerful presence in the nonprofit community, to visit with and thank our supporters, to raise monies for our programs, and to have a good time. It was such a success that I felt we needed to publicly thank the people who helped make the evening such an outstanding event.

We could not have achieved such an outcome without the generous help from the following:

-I.F.D.E.S. (Portuguese Hall)

-Mama Mia’s Restaurants (Mahjid Bahriny, owner)

-Generous regional auction and raffle item donors

-The Gilroy Dispatch

-The Gilroy Chamber of Commerce Business Focus Publication

-Mayor Al Pinheiro as Auctioneer

-Mark Turner for Comedy Entertainment

-LJB Farms for the pumpkins

-Blaettler Ranch for the pomegranates

-Attendees support through dinner and raffle tickets and auction item purchases

-Victory Outreach for help with cleanup

-Exchange members who always amaze me – what multi-taskers!

-Friends and family members of Exchangites who always help

-And MOST importantly, those who attended! Without you, all of the preparation would have been in vain.

THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU TO ALL!

When the going gets tough, our community always steps up to the plate. And we are so very appreciative and grateful.

Shirley Willard, director, The Exchange Club of Gilroy
