The Friends of the Morgan Hill Library Speakers Series will include a Prospective Candidate’s Forum for South County residents at the Morgan Hill Library on July 22.
Forum panelists include Morgan Hill City Clerk Irma Torrez, former Gilroy City Administrator Jay Baksa, former Saratoga Mayor Karen Anderson, Morgan Hill City Councilman Greg Sellers, Morgan Hill Unified School District trustee Kathy Sullivan and former MHUSD trustee Del Foster.
The idea for the forum was sparked by an editorial board discussion about the importance of voters having at least two good candidates for every seat.
The forum is co-sponsored by Leadership Morgan Hill, the Morgan Hill Times and Friends of the Morgan Hill Library.
The idea for the forum was sparked by an editorial board discussion about the importance of voters having at least two good candidates for every seat.
“We’re operating on the theory that many folks have considered running for office, but don’t have enough information to make the decision,” said Lisa Pampuch, a member of the newspaper’s editorial board. “Having at least two strong candidates creates a situation in which candidates have to talk about the issues facing the community.”
Prospective candidates from all over South County are invited to attend, as the information presented will also apply to candidates from Gilroy or San Martin.
Next week’s forum will take place at 6:30 p.m. at the library, 660 W. Main Ave., Morgan Hill.
