Politicians call for action

Washington – California’s Democratic U.S. Senators Dianne Feinstein and Barbara Boxer, and a bipartisan group of six California representatives Tuesday urged the prompt completion of a preliminary assessment of the flood damage caused by recent storms in northern California. The assessment will gauge total damages to determine what Federal assistance is needed.

“The latest storms to hit northern California have resulted in serious flooding causing extensive damage to many individual properties and numerous small businesses, as well as key infrastructure, including numerous public roads, bridges and flood control structures,” Feinstein said. “It is imperative to get these estimates done quickly to determine what federal disaster assistance is needed in local communities.”

U.S. Representative Richard Pombo, R-Tracy, was one of a group of six California congress members to join the senators’ call for action.

Operation: ‘A Second Chance’ deemed success

San Jose – More than 525 people took advantage of the Santa Clara County Sheriff’s “Second Chance” warrant redemption program and more than 650 warrants were cleared.

“This program has allowed many people to take care of their outstanding warrants during the Holiday Season” said Lt. James Keith of the Santa Clara County Sheriff’s Office Warrants division. “We are very pleased with the results, and look forward to implementing similar programs in the future.”

Operation: “A Second Chance” ran Dec. 1 through Dec. 31. Individuals were able to come to the Sheriff’s Office Records Division to receive their warrant citation. A “Promise to Appear” in court at a future date was issued to individuals whose warrants fell within the guidelines of Operation: “A Second Chance.”

Operation: “A Second Chance” was directed towards all misdemeanor warrants, no matter what the bail amount, including those warrants stamped “No Cite and Release,” “No Walk-Over,” and “Post and Forfeit.”

Felony warrants or any involving violence were not eligible for the program.
