Help needed at event
Gilroy – Needy families won’t leave empty handed after visiting St. Joseph’s Christmas Sharing event from 8:30am to 1pm, Dec. 17 at First Baptist Church, 8455 Wren Ave.
During the annual event, local families registered for St. Joseph’s food program will take home a box filled with staples, such as flour, sugar, fresh produce, beans and rice. Each family also will receive a turkey.
Children ages 10 and younger will take home toys. Santa Claus will visit during the event and take free pictures with the tots. There will be a book give-away for children and the California Highway Patrol will hand out donated coats.
Volunteers are still needed to help out for a couple hours at the Christmas Sharing event.

Local educators exhibit art
Gilroy – The artwork of local educators from Gavilan College, Gilroy, Live Oak and San Benito high schools will be displayed at Gavilan College Creative Catalyst 5 exhibit until Feb. 1.
The gallery is open Monday through Thursday from 8am to 6pm and Fridays from 8am to 2pm. The gallery is closed Saturday and Sunday.
The campus will be closed from Dec. 23 until Jan. 2.
The artists will hold a reception from 4 to 5:30pm today.
The exhibit includes works in a variety of media such as ceramics, painting, mural, digital photography and mixed media.

Give blood and save lives
Gilroy – The next mobile blood drive in Gilroy will be on Thursday at the First Baptist Church, 8455 Wren Ave. from 1:30 to 6:30pm.

Boutique at Rod Kelley
Gilroy – Join in a holiday boutique at Rod Kelley Elementary School Saturday, from 10am to 5pm.
For sale will be home items, candles, Christmas items, jewelry, food storage, hand crafted items, food and much more.
Open poetry reading
Gilroy – The Garlicky Group of Poets holds its monthly poetry reading on Saturday at 3:30pm in the meeting room of the Gilroy Public Library.
This event is free and the public is welcome to attend.

Have breakfast with Santa
Gilroy – The City of Gilroy Community Services Department will be presenting Breakfast with Santa on Saturday at the Gilroy Senior Center, 7371 Hanna St.
This special morning is for children 3 to 9 years of age and their parents. Cost is $12 (ages 3-9), $14 non-resident.
Adults are $7, $9 non-resident. Children’s activities include breakfast, crafts and a photo. There will be two seatings at 8:30 and 10:30am.

Christmas concert coming
Morgan Hill – The Gavilan College Choir, along with the South Valley String Quartet will present their Christmas Concert at 7:30pm, Sunday at Advent Lutheran Church, 16870 Murphy Ave., Morgan Hill. Admission is free.
The choir will be singing music from Mozart, Beethoven, and Howells. Also included in the program are holiday favorites. The evening will begin with the South Valley String Quartet and choir performing the Scubert Mass in G.
The performance of the Mass will be repeated Saturday Dec. 17, with the South Valley Symphony in the Gavilan College Theater at 4pm.
