Audition ‘for Schoolhouse Rock’

Gilroy – Auditions will be held for South Valley Civic Theatre’s teen show, ‘Schoolhouse Rock,’ are scheduled for early January.

Auditions are open to teens ages 12 to 8. Prepare a song to sing and bring sheet music or a CD. Wear clothes you can move in as you will learn a dance.

Auditions are Friday at 7pm and Saturday, at 10am and 1pm. Check in half an hour before audition. They are held at the SVCT Warehouse, located behind Kelly-Moore Paints at 8565 Monterey Road in Gilroy.

The show opens March 16 and runs for three weekends at the Morgan Hill Community Playhouse.

Take a swing at softball tryouts

Gilroy – Welcome to 2007 Chaos Softball try-outs. Try-outs will be open to all girls ages 7 to 14.

After a successful 2006 season, we will be starting our travel ball season a little sooner. In the past we have participated in B-Level tournaments throughout the summer and winter. But, because of the high demand in competition and how successful the organization has been in travel tournaments. The organization has decided to step it up a notch and compete in A-Level tournaments in 2007.

Tryouts are 3:30pm to 5pm for ages 10 and younger; 2 to 3:30pm, ages 12 and younger, levels A and B and 1 to 2pm for ages 14 and younger level A, Jan 6 and 13 at Goldsmith Seeds Chaos Softball Field.

Gilroy – Conservative Republicans and others are invited to attend the monthly meeting of the California Republican Assembly (CRA) 7pm, Jan. 11.

Meet at the Holiday Inn Express Hotel and Suites in Morgan Hill (17035 Condit Road). Rabbi Nachum Shifren the “surfing Rabbi,” author of the book “Kill Your Teacher” has been invited to speak. Experience some classic sounds

Gilroy – The City of Gilroy Community Services Department present John Bisceglie’s “Soul Terrain.”

Come experience the sounds of Motown, disco and soul in this ultimate all-singing, all-dancing wild revue, featuring 75 local kids.

Performances are Jan. 12 through 28, Friday and Saturday evenings at 7:30pm; Sundays at 1 and 5pm.

Performances will be held at the Gilroy High School Theater. All tickets are $12, reserved seating and reservations are recommended.

Enjoy Coyote Creek bird walk

Morgan Hill – A series of bird walks led by Jane Haley, a National Park Service docent for 20 years and Wildlife Education and Rehabilitation Center (W.E.R.C.) volunteer, starts Jan. 6, from 9 to 11am along Coyote Creek, north of Morgan Hill.

Bird walks will also be held Feb. 3rd, March 3 and March 31. Participants will have an opportunity to observe migratory birds as well as discover an appreciation of local birds, their habitat and ecological importance.

Due to the terrain, these walks are not recommended for young children. The programs are free, space is limited and reservations are required.

Purring and barking in the new year

Morgan Hill – The Friends of San Martin Animal Shelter (FOSMAS) need your help to find loving families for the many homeless companion animals currently at the Shelter and in foster homes.
