Enjoy the Victorian Christmas Tea
Gilroy – Celebrate the beginning of the Christmas season Saturday at the Victorian Christmas Tea in the Willey House, 140 Fifth St. Two seatings at either 10am or 1pm will feature a delectable menu of quiche, scones, preserves and creams, fresh fruit, sweets and tea served by members of the Gilroy Historical Society.
Enjoy music of the season and a quilt exhibit by the Piece by Piece Quilters Guild while treating yourself to this relaxing special event. Tickets are $20 and will not be sold at the door, so sign up at the City of Gilroy Community Services Dept., 7351 Rosanna St. The Gilroy Museum across the street will feature an exhibit of antique toys under the Christmas Tree.

Participate in Gilroy’s holiday parade
Gilroy – The Gilroy Downtown Business Association is accepting entries for this year’s Holiday Parade on Saturday, and invites interested individuals and groups to participate.
This year’s parade theme is “It’s Beginning to Look a Lot Like Christmas” and it will start at Eighth and Monterey streets and end at First and Monterey streets.
The parade committee is looking for floats, vintage cars, performers and others interested in participating. Check-in is 4pm with the parade starting at 5pm.

The Great Gilroy Gobbler Gathering
Gilroy – The Great Gilroy Gobbler Gathering will be held Saturday from 11am to 7pm and Sunday at 11am to 4pm on Monterey and Lewis streets. Before attending the Downtown Christmas Tree lighting on Saturday, stop by for barbecued turkey or pork. The state barbecue champion will demonstrate how to barbecue, smoke and deep fry turkeys.

‘Inspecting Carol’ continues
Morgan Hill – South Valley Civic Theatre presents “Inspecting Carol,” a hilarious adult comedy that’s sweeping the nation. Mix together a struggling theater company, a tired production of “A Christmas Carol,” a really bad actor and a visiting inspector from the National Endowment for the Arts and you end up with this zany off-the-wall holiday farce.
Shows Fridays and Saturdays at 8pm through D Performances are at the Morgan Hill Community Playhouse on the corner of Monterey and Dunne avenues. Tickets $12 for seniors and students and $15 adults. Tickets may be purchased at the Gilroy Visitors Bureau, BookSmart in Morgan Hill and the Morgan Hill Community Center.

Volunteers sought for parade committee
Gilroy – The Gilroy Memorial Day Committee is looking for volunteers to help put this annual event together. For those interested, the first meeting for the 2006 event is scheduled for Tuesday, at 6pm, at Happy Dog Pizza on Fifth Street.

Search for cannery workers
Gilroy – Did you work at the old Gilroy cannery for a summer? A year? A decade? We would like to hear your stories!
As part of a redevelopment project, South County Housing Corporation has launched the Cannery History Project. This project, in conjunction with the Gavilan College History Department, will employ Gavilan students to gather, preserve and share human histories of Gilroy’s cannery community.
SCH has purchased the site in downtown and plans a mixed-use development of approximately 210 residential units and 40,000 square feet of office, food service and retail space. Rather than losing the history when the buildings are replaced, SCH wishes to make the stories of people who worked at the cannery known.

Have fun with arts and crafts
Gilroy – Some parents think getting involved in their child’s school can be a painful experience, but Glen View’s Home and School Club want to prove otherwise at Family Arts & Crafts Night. The crafts offered are based on a character development theme entitled “Drawing on Character” from Crayola.
The Glen View Home & School Club’s Family Arts & Crafts Night is coming Dec. 14, from 6 to 7:30pm in the multi-purpose room at the school, 600 W. Eighth St. Bring the whole family to this free event. Snacks and drinks will be served and resources will be available in English and Spanish.
