CMAP community orientation today

Gilroy – Community Media Access Partnership (CMAP), your local TV station, invites the community to attend an orientation 6 to 7pm, today. Residents interested in learning how to use CMAP to produce their own movie, PSA or TV show are encouraged to attend. Videos produced are aired free of charge on Channels 17, 18, 19 or 20.

The orientation will introduce the community to the TV station, and staff will give a tour of the three-camera studio, editing suites and field equipment department. Attendees also will have a chance to make an appointment for future training on video equipment.

Orientation will be held in CMAP’s TV studio at Gavilan College, 5055 Santa Teresa Blvd.

Family Fun Day at Rebekah’s

Gilroy – The annual Family Fun Day is 11am to 3pm, Saturday at the Elks Lodge to raise money for Rebekah’s Children’s Services. Families will receive one ready to stuff Noah’s Ark animal of their choice for $20. All proceeds support RCS Prevention and Education Programs serving 11 Gilroy Schools.

Festival accepting poster entries

Gilroy – The Gilroy Garlic Festival Association, Inc. is accepting entries for the 2007 Art Poster Contest.

A $750 first prize will go to the entry which is judged to best capture the spirit and essence of this premier food festival.

In addition, the first place winner shall receive ten posters and one of each souvenir item produced with their artwork.

The second place winner will receive $400 and third place $200. The winning entry will be reproduced as a high quality, limited edition poster to be sold at the 29th Annual Gilroy Garlic Festival, July 27, 28 and 29, 2007.

The deadline for entries is 5pm, March 1, and winners will be notified by March 30, 2007. Entry forms and complete contest rules are now available online at www.gilroygarlicfestival.com or from the Gilroy Garlic Festival office, 7473 Monterey St.

‘Treasure Island’ hits the stage

Morgan Hill – Treasure Island show dates are: 8pm Fridays and Saturdays, Nov. 17, 18, 24 and 25; Dec. 1, 2, 8, and 9. Sunday matinees are 2pm Nov. 26 and Dec. 3. All shows are at the Morgan Hill community Playhouse, 17090 Monterey Road.

Tickets are $15 for adults, and $12 for students/seniors.

Take an AARP safe driving class

Morgan Hill – The nations first and largest classroom refresher course for motorists 50 and older will be held in the near future. Participants will familiarize themselves with driver safety and new laws.

Three-year DMV certificates will be awarded for discounts on your own auto insurance, upon completion of this one-day program.

No tests – course, class materials, and instructor are provided by AARP.

There is a minimal DMV certificate fee.

Mount Madonna hosts open house

Watsonville – Check out a 355 acre classroom at Mount Madonna School’s open house, 1pm, Nov. 18, featuring preschool through grade 12.

Founded in 1979, Mount Madonna School is a non-sectarian, preschool through 12 grade independent school, and is fully accredited.
