Gilroy – A man loitering outside D-Mart pulled out the Dispatch’s Most Wanted section when police asked him for identification Sunday.

Cesar Montoya, 19, who was captured by Gilroy Police on a $15,000 warrant for possession of a controlled substance last month – but was released on bail – was standing outside D-Mart with a two other men when police approached.

According to Sgt. Wes Stanford, after an officer questioned who they were Montoya pulled out an old Dispatch Most Wanted list he had cut out.

“I’m Cesar Montoya,” he said, pointing to his mug shot, police said. “‘See, that’s me.'”

According to police, Montoya was using the information from the Most Wanted list as his form of identification since he does not have one.

Neighborhood Academy 2006

Operation Interdependence Pack-in

Gilroy – Please join us Saturday, March 18, from 1 to 3pm at 8075 Camino Arroyo (behind the old Wal-Mart), where we will be creating about 5,000 civilian rations – baggies with goodies and notes from home to ship out to the deployed men and women.

Last month, Lance Cpl. Lars Mauerman, a Marine from Gilroy, was deployed with the 11th MEU. The rations let him and the rest of his battalion know we are thinking of them and the thousands of deployed men and women military around the world.

Become a Bonfante volunteer

Gilroy – Would you like to become a docent/volunteer in a beautiful garden setting? Do you enjoy working with people and working outdoors? The docent group at Bonfante Gardens is full of energy, fun and dedicated people. Previous horticulture experience of any sort is a bonus, but definitely not a requirement.

Orientation offered March 22 and March 25, between 9:30 and 11:30am. We are a non-profit organization.

Kindergarten registration

Gilroy – The school district’s kindergarten registration begins Saturday, March 11, from 8am to noon at all eight elementary school sites.

Open poetry reading

Gilroy – The Garlicky groups of poets holds its monthly poetry reading on Saturday, March 11, at 3:30pm in the meeting room of the Gilroy Public Library, Rosanna and Sixth streets. Public participation is welcome. Free.

‘Narnia’ opening night festivities

Morgan Hill – South Valley Civic Theatre is pleased to announce that local artists Diane Wallace and Sandra Marlowe will be participating in the opening night of its young performers’ production of ‘Narnia.’

Wallace will be exhibiting works throughout ‘Narnia’s’ four-week performance schedule.

Marlowe will be performing for the audience beginning at 7:30pm. Marlowe has been an audience favorite for a number of years. She is a featured artist at the ‘Bach to Blues’ festival.

Pianist, Marilyn Guerin, will be performing the ‘Narnia’ musical compositions for each of the 10 shows.

‘Narnia’ opens at the Morgan Hill Community Playhouse on March 17 and runs through April 8. Tickets are $15 for adults and $12 for students/seniors. Tickets will be available at the Gilroy Visitor’s Bureau, Morgan Hill Community Center and at Booksmart in Morgan Hill.
