National Night Out returns Aug. 1

Gilroy’s annual National Night Out celebration takes place Aug. 1 from 4:30-8pm on the grassy paseo by the Gilroy Library, 350 W. Sixth St.

National Night Out is a nationwide event that fosters police-community partnerships and raises awareness about crime prevention. There will be music, games, raffles, crafts, face painting and more.

Tickets now available for Spice of Life awards ceremony

Tickets are now available for the Gilroy Chamber of Commerce’s annual Spice of Life Awards ceremony Aug. 26 at Fortino Winery.

The evening will begin with live music, sponsored by Tempo Kitchen & Bar, followed by dinner and the awards ceremony.

Every year, the Gilroy Chamber recognizes the businesses and people who make a difference in the community. This year, the chamber announced the following people and businesses have been selected as the Spice of Life Award recipients:

• Man of the Year: Mark Turner

• Woman of the Year: Jane Howard

• Large Business of the Year: Nissan of Gilroy

• Small Business of the Year: One Life Prints

• Educator of the Year: Michelle Anderson

• Volunteer of the Year: Mike Brownfield

• Non-Profit of the Year: Latino Family Fund

• Young Professional of the Year: Mark E. Jacobsen

• Student of the Year: Alexandra Beyret

Tickets are $115 per person and available at gilroy.org/spiceoflife. Fortino Winery is located at 4525 Hecker Pass Road in Gilroy.

Macedo recognized at University of Dallas

Luke Macedo of Gilroy was named to the spring 2023 Dean’s List at the University of Dallas for earning a semester GPA of 3.5 or higher. 

Macedo is a Sophomore Business major.

The University of Dallas is a Catholic liberal arts university with campuses in Irving, Texas, and Rome, Italy.

Kraintz graduates from LeTourneau University

Connor Kraintz of Gilroy recently graduated from LeTourneau University in Longview, Texas.

Kraintz earned a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science, with cum laude honors. Cum laude graduates maintained a cumulative grade point average between 3.40 and 3.59.

Riley honored at University of Dallas

Maureen Riley of Gilroy was named to the University of Dallas spring 2023 Honor Roll for earning a semester GPA of 3.0-3.49. 

Riley is a Senior Economics and Finance major.
