I have a question, how come on the Gilroy EDC Web site there is
no way to e-mail Larry Cope the director? That address is
www.gilroyedc.org, and on that cover page there is no information
about the staff of the economic development corporation. So I
wonder how prospective retailers, businesses and such would find
Larry Cope if they were directed to that address?

Trouble Contacting the Contacts
“I have a question, how come on the Gilroy EDC Web site there is no way to e-mail Larry Cope the director? That address is www.gilroyedc.org, and on that cover page there is no information about the staff of the economic development corporation. So I wonder how prospective retailers, businesses and such would find Larry Cope if they were directed to that address?”
Red Phone:
Caller, you are correct, Red Phone thought it might just prove you wrong and find that information for itself on the site, but after a few moments of trudging through links to pdfs and site map links, it just cut to the chase and called the economic development department, which is posted clearly on the top of the page.
Pamela Guerra, the administrative assistant for the EDC, said the Web site has been revamped in the last few months and as all new ventures go, there are still a few kinks to work out.
Red Phone wanted to know if this concern had been brought to her attention, and she said it had not, and now that it has been brought to her attention it’s got her wondering why e-mail addresses aren’t readily available.
So, good caller, your concern has been relayed and in the meantime you can e-mail
gi****@gi*******.org
and it will be directed to Larry Cope.
Locked Door
Red Phone addressed a call concerning a broken or locked door at Long’s Drug Store on First Street. The caller said an exit door was locked and that the clerk inside said it was broken and could not be opened. The caller was concerned that this situation posed a safety hazard in the event of a fire, earthquake or other emergency and wanted to see if Red Phone could look into it.
Red Phone contacted Fire Chief Dale Foster who relayed the message to the fire prevention team to investigate.
RED Phone:
Fire Marshal, Jackie Bretschneider spoke with the store manager, who said that the automatic opening function of one of three front doors had been broken, but it is now fixed. The store manager said that they had posted a sign indicating that the door was not functioning.
The door was inspected Wednesday by acting Deputy Fire Marshal Miguel Trujillo, and the automatic function of the door has been fixed and is now operational.
Automatic opening doors do have a the feature that they can be pushed open if power fails to open them, Bretschneider said in an e-mail. Therefore, in an emergency such doors can be pushed open, even if the power is out or the automatic feature is not working.
“Retail store areas of more than 1,500 square feet do require a minimum of two exits, she said. And more exits can be required as the floor area increases. Exit doors are also required to have a minimum separation distance. In some cases retail stores do have more front doors than required by the code for exiting. However even excess doors, if marked as an exit, may not be taken out of service as an exit without careful review of the code to determine if that is allowable,” Bretschneider said.
If there are concerns about exiting at a location, please call the fire marshal’s office and report the situation. The number is 846-0430, select #5 for fire, hazmat and wastewater issues.
Red Phone thanks all who helped out with this safety concern and knows our good callers appreciate it too.
