He was born on March 14, 1914, in Decatur, Ala.
He was pastor of Crenshaw Baptist Church in Torrance for 26 years. His wife and he retired in 1988 after 44 years in the ministry and moved to Morgan Hill. He was residing with his wife at Pacific Hills Manor in Morgan Hill when he died.
Mr. Herndon is survived by his wife of 65 years, Ruby Nell; daughter and son-in-law, Paul and Deana Fink of Morgan Hill; son and daughter-in-law, Gerald and Sandra Hendon of Houston, Texas; son, Steve Hendon of Mesa, Ariz; grandaughters Denise Hendon and Beverly Candia of Torrance, Autumn Hendon of Houston, Texas; grandson Austin Hendon of Houston, Texas; and great-grandson, Daniel Candia, Jr. of Torrance.
He was preceded in death by his parents, John Monroe and Annie B. and all four brothers and three sisters.
He will be missed by many friends and loved ones that he touched while alive. There are no local services planned.
Internment will be at Greenhills Memorial Park in Rancho Palos Verdes. Local arrangements by Johnson Funeral Home in Moragn Hill.
