A 24-year-old Gilroy man was arrested after kidnapping and raping an acquaintance, police said.

Gerardo Ceballos and the woman, whose name was withheld to protect her identity, were hanging out in Monterey Thursday when they had an argument, police said. The woman then got into her car and left Monterey for Gilroy.

As she was leaving Monterey, Ceballos managed to catch up to the woman and get into her car, police said. Police did not specify how Ceballos caught up to the car or how he got into it.

Ceballos then used force to get the woman and the car to a residence on the 8000 block of Church Street, physically and sexually assaulting her in the car on the way, police said. At the house, he raped her and would not let her leave. Police did not specify how he kept her in the house.

However, the woman escaped from the house about 7 a.m. Friday and went to the police department, where she reported the incidents, police said. Police then went to the Church Street residence and arrested Ceballos on suspicion of rape, kidnapping, forced oral copulation, false imprisonment and domestic violence.
