A Gilroy man was arrested after robbing a Morgan Hill ice cream shop at gunpoint Sunday night.
Police responded to a call of an armed robbery in progress at the Baskin Robbins store at 230 Cochrane Plaza about 6:52 p.m. Sunday, according to Morgan Hill police Sgt. Troy Hoefling.
While en route to the ice cream shop, officers were informed that the suspect was armed with a handgun, Hoefling said. Officers arrived and set up a perimeter around the store, but learned the suspect has already fled the area with an undisclosed amount of money.
Police continued to search for the suspect, Hoefling said.
A man matching the suspect’s description was found nearby and detained by officers, police said. Witnesses identified the man, Todd Pederson, 48 of Gilroy, as the alleged armed robber.
Pederson was arrested and booked at Santa Clara County jail on suspicion of armed robbery, possession of illegal drugs and drug paraphernalia.
Baskin Robbins employees and a customer were inside the store at the time of the incident, but were not injured, Hoefling said.
