Police arrested a 31-year-old Gilroy man after a resident found video cameras hidden in the ceiling of their home.
The cameras, which they discovered June 4, were aimed into their 16-year-old daughter’s bedroom, police said. The residents followed the camera’s cable to a sub-leased bedroom of a home on the 900 block of Perrelli Drive that was being rented to a subject known to them as Mario Ruiz.
The cameras were hooked up to a DVD player and TV for viewing. But Ruiz’ real name is Salvador Velador Montes, and he was supposed to arrive home within the hour but never did. A search warrant was obtained and the evidence from his room gathered.
The evidence is still being processed at this time and additional victims may have been videotaped at another residence within the city of Gilroy, police said.
On June 6, officers stopped his vehicle in the area of Monterey Road and Martin Street. While being detained, Montes attempted to fight with the officers, who were able to overcome him and he was taken into custody without further incident. Neither the officers nor Montes were injured.
Montes was arrested on suspicion of secretly videotaping an underage girl. He is being held on a no-bail warrant stemming from unrelated traffic violations.
