Man Caught After Spotted Walking Past PD

Gilroy – An emergency dispatcher taking a break on the balcony of the new police department spotted a wanted batterer walking south on Hanna Street past the building just after 3pm Tuesday. She ran inside to tell Sgt. John Sheedy, who happened to be in the communications center; Sheedy took off, and confronted Gyasi Kwame Terran, a 23-year-old transient wanted for domestic battery and resisting arrest, near City Hall. Terran bolted toward the police department, with Sheedy in pursuit. To stop him, Sheedy fired his TASER from more than 25 feet away, but the weapon’s prongs only hit Terran’s T-shirt, and didn’t penetrate his skin. As he ran, Terran stumbled and fell, allowing Sheedy to catch up and handcuff him outside the station. Terran was booked into County Jail on suspicion of resisting arrest and on warrants for battery, domestic battery and resisting arrest. His bail is set at $61,000.
