A man committed suicide Monday afternoon on a dirt road near Gilroy Foods, but police are not releasing his name until his next of kin is notified.
About 1:25 p.m. Monday, an employee at Gilroy Foods reported the man, and officers from the Gilroy Police Department initially responded. Santa Clara County Sheriff’s deputies were also dispatched, but by the time they arrived, the man had already shot himself and was lying on his back next to his vehicle with a gunshot wound to the head, said Sheriff’s Sgt. Rick Sung.
The man was pronounced dead at the scene.
Police will be able to release more details about the man’s identity after his family is notified, Sung said.
