GILROY – An Aromas man was held prisoner in his Cadillac sport-utility vehicle while a homeless man drove him around town Sunday evening, police said.

The alleged victim, aged 32, told Gilroy police he met Jesus Lopez, 40, over cocktails at a restaurant at Monterey and Howson streets.

The Aromas man’s personal driver got into an argument with Lopez and left, police reported. Lopez then took it upon himself to drive the man around town.

The man became afraid when Lopez began driving erratically, police said. Despite requests from the Aromas man, Lopez would not stop or let the man out of the vehicle.

Telling his alleged captor he was calling his wife, the man called 9-1-1 from his cellular phone.

Police stopped the vehicle at 6:46 p.m. on Leavesley Road, near Murray Avenue, and arrested Lopez on suspicion of kidnapping, a felony, and violation of parole.

Police had previously arrested Lopez Thursday night at Leavesley and Murray on suspicion of being under the influence of a controlled substance and illegal possession of a hypodermic needle, both misdemeanors.
