A man and his mother were arrested at a local motel in
connection with an armed robbery early Thursday morning, police
said. Larry Giles, 25, and his mother Virginia Giles, 44, both of
whom are on parole, were arrested about 6 a.m. at the Oaks Motel,
8065 Monterey St.

The man who was robbed told police that Giles approached him and demanded money. The man refused. But when Giles pulled a black handgun and threatened his life, the man handed over an undisclosed amount of money, police said.
Giles was arrested on suspicion of robbery and a parole hold. Virginia Giles was arrested on suspicion of robbery (for having knowledge of the arrest and protecting her son by delaying officers) and a parole hold.
