Gilroy – Police are still seeking the driver of a car following a four-minute chase that ended in a nasty crash near the Gilroy Outlets.
Just after 9am Thursday, an officer noticed Taneka Becerra, a woman wanted for a parole violation, sitting in the passenger seat of a car at the intersection of Old Gilroy and Eighth streets. The officer tried to stop the car, but the driver sped onward, initiating a four-minute chase around Gilroy. As he turned into the Outlets at 8155 Arroyo Circle, the driver hit a light pole.
The impact apparently flung Becerra, who wasn’t wearing a seat belt, into the windshield, knocking her out. The driver took off on foot. Gilroy police pursued the man, described as a thin Hispanic man in his 20s, roughly 5 feet, 7 inches tall, with a mustache, but hadn’t found him by press time Thursday. Windshield damage indicates the man likely hit his head during the accident.
Becerra was transported to San Jose Regional Hospital, where she was treated for head injuries, then taken into police custody for a felony parole violation.
If found, the driver will likely be charged with felony hit and run and felony evasion.
Anyone with information may call Officer David Aceves, 846-0350.
