Gilroy Police and Fire personnel responded at 11:50 p.m. Saturday to an attempted homicide at the the Longhouse Restaurant, located at 8195 Monterey Road.
A 36-year-old male victim, whose name has been withheld, was found by officers near the front entrance of the bar with numerous stab wounds to his back, police report. The victim was treated by paramedics and transported to a Bay Area trauma center via Cal-Star Life Flight, according to a GPD press release.
Patrol officers investigating the incident determined that three subjects were involved in a physical fight with the victim. One of these suspects, 23-year-old Efrain Fregoso, was subsequently arrested. Police say the other two suspects have not yet been identified or interviewed as to their involvement with the case. The other two suspects are described as two Hispanic male adults. The stabbing occurred following the escalation of a verbal confrontation outside the restaurant and isn’t believed to be gang related, according to Gilroy Police Sgt. Pedro Espinoza.
