DEAR EDITOR:

For the last 17 years, Emergency Housing Consortium and the County of Santa Clara have teamed up to provide life-saving shelter and hot meals during cold weather months to homeless adults and families at the National Guard Armory in Gilroy.

An integral part of this team is the wonderful group of concerned Gilroy and Morgan Hill citizens, unsung heroes, who, year in and year out, help the program run very smoothly.

Thank you to all whose significant dedication to helping their less fortunate neighbors in their community contributed to the success of this year’s Cold Weather Shelter Program.

This winter, more than 720 different men, women, and children came to our doors for help; for the four months of the program, the armory provided the equivalent of over 12,700 nights of shelter! In Gilroy, the success of the Cold Weather Shelter Program is dependent on the generosity of volunteers.

Some of our key supporters this year include: City of Gilroy, Gardner Health Mobile Unit, and Gilroy Rotary Club. In addition, Gilroy United Methodist Church, Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, Martha’s Kitchen, First Baptist Church of Gilroy, Gilroy Bible Church, and Morgan Hill United Methodist Church, along with numerous other individuals, provided 93 out of the 122 dinners served.

Finally, we would like to thank the Army National Guard unit.
