Entered into rest in Hollister. She was born in Hollister and lived here all of her life. She is preceded in death by her husband, Brooks Houghton who died in 1965. She was a graduate of Mills College in Oakland with a bachelor’s degree. Margaret taught school in San Francisco, Morgan Hill and San Benito County. She was a member of St. Luke’s Episcopal Church, California Retired Teachers’ Association, Republican Women, Native Daughters of the Golden West and Hollister Women’s Club.
She is survived by her nephew and his wife, Ray and Debbie Hawkins of Hollister and her cousins, Alvin Cole of Hollister, Lou and Frank Zgragen of Hollister, Sara Mae and Bill DeRosa of Paicines, Fred and Johnnie Hawkins of Hollister, Ed and Wilma Hawkins of Hollister and Fred Hawkins of Hollister.
Friends can pay their respects and view photos of Mrs. Houghton’s life on Monday, March 31, 2008 from 12:00 noon until 5:00 P.M. at Black Cooper Sander Funeral Home.
Donations are preferred to Hazel Hawkins Hospital Foundation c/o the funeral home.
Private cremation will be followed by private inurnment in the IOOF Cemetery.
