Born in Brawley, she and her husband, Secundino “Nini” Castro were married in 1951 at Immaculate Conception Church in Tres Pinos. She had just recently moved from Fresno to Gilroy and lived many years in Hollister. Prior to her retirement, she worked as a secretary for State of California Employment Development Department, the Dean of Education at San Jose State University, Pacific Bell Telephone and Pacific Gas and Electric Co., and for many physicians. She graduated from Watsonville High School and attended Cabrillo College and was a member of Sacred Heart Church in Hollister.
She is survived by her husband, Secundino “Nini” Castro of Gilroy; son, Richard Castro of Gilroy; daughter and her husband, Mary Lou and Richard Montoya of Hollister; stepbrothers and stepsister, Manuel Reynozo and Jackie Reynozo of Bakersfield and Virginia Reynozo of Los Angeles; grandchildren, Richard Montoya Jr. of Hollister, Stephanie Montoya of Hollister and Anthony Montoya of Sacramento; and two great-grandchildren.
Friends can pay their respects from noon to 8pm Wednesday, April 13, 2005 at Black Cooper Sander Funeral Home, Hollister. Prayer services will be held at 7pm at the funeral home that evening. Pastor Kevin Townsend of Sunnyslope Christian Center will officiate.
A Mass will be celebrated at 10am Thursday, April 14, 2005 at Sacred Heart Church in Hollister. Friends can gather at the funeral home chapel at 9:30am for a procession to the church.
Interment and graveside services will follow the Mass at Calvary Cemetery in Hollister.
A reception will follow the services at Sunnyslope Christian Center in Hollister.
