N.C. on Jan. 17, 2003.
Mary Sue Stingley Roberts-Peterson, age 82, of Pineville, N.C. and formerly of Mountain Home, Ark., died suddenly in Charlotte, N.C. on Jan. 17, 2003.

Born Oct. 10, 1920 in Washington, Ark., Mrs. Peterson was an avid quilter, enjoyed traveling, reading, crossword puzzles, gospel music, flowers, and gardening and was loved by all who knew her.

Survivors include her daughter, Doris A. Chargin and husband, Mladen of Gilroy; son, David H. Roberts, Md., and wife Cheryl of Charlotte; and daughter-in-law Patricia Roberts of Jacksonville, Ark.; grandchildren Susan Rock of Walnut Creek, Mark Chargin, Santa Maria, Steven Chargin, Gilroy, Robyn Clark, North Little Rock, Ark., Rev. Paul W. Roberts of Alpena, Mich., James Roberts and William Stingley Roberts, both of Jacksonville, Ark., Melanie Roberts and David O. Roberts of Charlotte; five great-grandchildren, Stephen David Clark of North Little Rock, Reese William Roberts, Alpena, Hunter and Garret Whit, both of Jacksonville and Jamie Roberts of West Plains, Mo.

She was preceded in death by two sons, James V. Roberts and Floyd Stephen Roberts. She was the beloved daughter of the late Rev. William H. and Caroline Stingley of Washington. She was the widow of Duval C. Roberts, deceased in 1976, and second husband, Leo S. Peterson, deceased in 1980.

Pall bearers will be James Roberts Jr., Carson Roberts, Daniel Roberts, William Roberts, David O’Brien Roberts and Rev. Paul W. Roberts.

Visitation will be at Herndon Funeral Home Chapel on Friday, Jan. 24 at noon in Hope, Ark. with funeral services at 2 p.m., followed by a burial service at Old Washington Cemetery, Washington.
