DEAR EDITOR:
A brand new medical-dental facility illustrates the out-of-the-box thinking that we need while the task force creates a downtown revitalization plan. Ordinances constrain the creative energy of the task force. Perhaps a moratorium on new businesses of any kind is in order until after the design phase.
Gardner Family Health Network provides medical and dental care for families from all walks of life and various income levels. Gardner clinicians provide care for uninsured families and serve as primary care physicians and dentists for insured families. Gardner clinic currently employs eight professionals who eat lunch and occasionally shop in Gilroy. The expansion plans call for an eventual staff of 20. If those 20 professionals work in downtown Gilroy, they will likely eat and shop there. In addition, the planned state-of-the-art clinic will draw Gardner board members and other tour groups who also will eat and visit downtown Gilroy. The current facility has no room for board meetings.
The planned renovation of the downtown building would preserve the historic facade while creating a clinic that provides space and the latest equipment for family practice, pediatrics, obstetrics, gynecology, and dentistry. The million dollar project will invite local contractors to bid.
I’m glad to see facts in your most recent article about the proposed medical facility at Fifth and Monterey. Efrain Coria, Chief Operating Officer of Gardner Family Health Network, invites you to call him at 408.278.7794, as I did, for more information about the organization and their plans.
