Two men stood on the front lawn of a central Gilroy home occupied by six children and two adults and fired shotguns through the windows, police said.

At 10:12 p.m. Monday, the two men, wearing black clothing and covering their faces with black bandannas, approached the house on the 7200 block of Dowdy Street and shot into the homes, police said. There were eight people inside the house at the time of the shooting, including six children, but no one was injured, police said. The ages of people in the house ranged from 3 to 29 years old.

The Gilroy Police Department is two blocks away, and police responded to a call regarding the apparently gang-related incident within a minute, police said. However, the men – whose race and further description police did not know – had already run off.

“The reason we believe it was gang-related is because one of the victims relayed that they received prior threats that were gang-related and the victim believes the shooting may be related to those threats,” Sgt. Robert Locke-Paddon said.

Police collected unspecified evidence at the scene, but did not have suspects in the crime, police said.

Anyone with information about this incident can contact Gilroy Police at 846-0350 or leave an anonymous tip at (800) 782-7463.
