The Mets battled, but were unable to stay alive in Boys Minors Tournament of Champions play Tuesday night at the Gilroy Sports Park, losing 7-6 to the Watsonville National/ Salsipuedes Yankees.

The Yankees scored two runs in the first inning, and would have score more in the second and third had Tyler Galloway not robbed two hits in those innings by snagging deep fly balls in center field. The Mets rallied back with a five-run run third inning that scored Sam Kent, Jon Schmidt, Max Kent, Justin Sheridan and Dakota Gaucin. Jimmy Lemberger, Luke Schmidt and Gaucin recorded singles in the third.

Noah Vasquez ripped a double in in the fourth and advanced to third on a fielder’s choice out by Sam Kent. Vasquez then scored on a single by Jon Schmidt.

The Yankees caught fire in the fifth, scoring five runs to take a one run lead. In the bottom half of the frame, D-Ray Perll recorded a single, but the Mets were held scoreless in the fifth and sixth innings.

Michael Montez was the starting pitcher for the Mets, followed by reliever Dakota Gaucin.

Gilroy’s Boys Minors American League representative, the Angels, won their semifinal game with the Scotts Valley Padres 2-1 Wednesday, taking the game on a passed ball in the sixth inning.

The Angels will now play in the TOC finals at 11 a.m. on Saturday
