A Morgan Hill woman accused of leaving her two small children alone at a hotel pleaded not guilty.
A pre-trial conference for Roselyn Haunga, 30, scheduled for Thursday was postponed, according to Santa Clara County District Attorney’s Office spokeswoman Amy Cornell.
Police said Haunga left her two children – a 4-year-old girl and a 2-year-old boy – alone at a Paradise Motel room early in the morning April 20. She was charged with two counts of child endangerment and two counts of contributing to the delinquency of a minor – one count for each child, Cornell said. All of the charges are misdemeanors.
Haunga pleaded not guilty to all four charges April 23.
A witness in a neighboring room called police about 5:45 a.m., reporting the girl was standing in the rain crying for her “mommy.” According to police, it was determined the girl may have been standing in the rain for as long as 45 minutes. The female witness recognized the child, and escorted her back to the room and found there were no adults and the 2-year-old boy asleep on the bed. The woman said about 2 a.m. she had a difficult time sleeping due to a baby crying in the adjacent room.
Morgan Hill officers established the woman’s identity and attempted to locate her. When they couldn’t, they called Child Protective Services and the children were put in their custody about 8 a.m. Shortly after, Haunga showed up and she was arrested and booked into county jail. She told police she left the hotel to “get money,” the press release says.
Haunga is on probation for burglary, police said.
