Gagliardi Realty and Property Management did not extend the lease of Grocery Outlet Bargain Market, 727 First St., and Plaza Liquors next door, and Mi Pueblo Food Center is slated to take their place.
Janice Angkiangco, manager of Grocery Outlet, said that the store is slated to close in mid-April.
“It was the landlord’s decision,” Angkiangco said.
A total of 23 staff members, including management, work at Grocery Outlet and are slated to lose their jobs, Angkiangco said.
Gagliardi did not wish to disclose details Friday. However, he did say confirm Mi Pueblo is set to move into the building.
San Jose-based Mi Pueblo has 14 stores in the Bay Area, Central Valley and Central Coast, according to its Web site.
Several representatives from local Hispanic stores attended a City Council meeting Monday to express concern about a new grocery store coming into town.
At the time, City Administrator Tom Haglund said the city had not received any applications from a new grocery store.
