Miss California is making a stop in the Garlic Capital.
Noelle Freeman, Miss California 2011 and 4th runner-up to Miss America 2012, will be signing autographs and performing during the Miss Gavilan Hills Competition at 4 p.m., March 18 at the Gavilan College Theatre at 5055 Santa Theresa Blvd. in Gilroy.
The Miss Gavilan Hills and Miss Northern California Regional Competition – official preliminaries to Miss America Program – will showcase the talents and accomplishments of high school and college students. A number of educational scholarships will be awarded.
Contestants will participate in interviews, on-stage questions, physical fitness, talent and evening wear categories.
New this year will be the Princess Program. Young girls ages 5 to 12 will participate in a non-competitive mentoring program from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, March 17 at Brownell Middle School at 7800 Carmel Street. Jessa Carmack, Miss California’s “Outstanding Teen,” will be there to meet the young ladies. The day will begin with a princess tea event focusing on etiquette and manners, and end with a crowning ceremony at 3 p.m. complete with sash and crown. Princesses will also have a cameo appearance onstage during Sunday’s competition. The cost is $100 per princess.
