MONDAY ROUNDUP: CHS baseball trumps Pajaro Valley

A six-run fifth inning aided the Christopher High baseball team’s 12-1 victory over host Pajaro Valley on Monday night in Watsonville.
The Cougars (7-3 overall, 4-0 Monterey Bay League), tallied a combined nine runs in the fifth and sixth innings to expand their early 3-1 lead in a game that was called after six frames due to the 10-run mercy rule.
Robert Driscal tossed five effective innings, including 11 strikeouts, for CHS to register the win on the mound.
Kevin Willard produced a 2 for 2 day with two RBIs to lead a 10-hit Cougars effort. Nader Elaskary and Nathan Davis also had two RBIs each.
The Cougars host the Grizzlies for another MBL encounter Wednesday at 4 p.m.
• Yovany Jimenez paced the Christopher High lacrosse team with three goals as the Cougars toppled host Watsonville 10-3 on Monday night.
Nikolas Gulan, Manny Avila, Daryl Jon Campos, Brook Oneto, Jeremy Botil and Brandon Kleder also netted goals for the Cougars, who were coming off of a narrow 5-4 home defeat to Santa Cruz on Friday. Goalie Jesus Ramirez kept Watsonville at bay with a number of clutch saves.
The Cougars will welcome Carmel into town Wednesday. Game time is scheduled for 4 p.m. at CHS.
• The Christopher High boys tennis team lost 6-1 to Palma on Monday.
