There was a land shark on the loose Friday evening at the Morgan
Hill Community Center dancing to the tunes spun by DJ Robin Renee.
His partner and victim was Jeanine Corini and the shark reported
the temperature inside his costume to be topping 150 degrees. By
day, the land shark poses as Tony Corini of Morgan Hill, finance
director at South County Chrysler.

Peter Pan (aka Brandon Welder) was seen flying around the ball room with Tinker Bell (Kayla Welder) close behind. They stopped long enough for the paparazzi to snap a picture. Tiffany Koch played the demure Southern Belle quite convincingly and Jen Carruba (this makes twice in the society page, Jen – she keeps popping up at all the right parties!) tried to convince us she even knows what a disco queen looks like, but admitted she was missing her other half to hold up the spinning disco ball as she danced.
All of these costume loving characters were at the Community center as guests of pediatric dentist Dr. Erica Gabor, who sponsors the yearly goblin festival. The good doctor gives out prizes for the winners of the costume contests and serves pizza, cookies and fresh apples as a palette- as well as fang-cleanser). The costume train that Dr. Gabor leads is everyone’s favorite game and the dancing under the orange balloon arch gave way to some pretty stylish shakin’.
The old Napa Auto Parts warehouse became the “haunted” warehouse Saturday, where South County adults romped in some pretty outrageous costumes (at least I think they were costumes). Wild Bill seemed just a tad too comfortable as an island princess, but his true nature emerged when the dancing French maids Jade Barrett and her friend Susan (no last name … witness protection program) pranced by. The party was sponsored by IDI (Independence Day Incorporated) and the parent boosters of Morgan Hill Gymnastics. Daryl Manning, the tall white boot-clad president of IDI, oversaw the fest. Pulled together in a mere five weeks by committee chairs Lynda McNulty and Mark Webb and their terrific group of workers, the Family Franken Fest drew more than 800 partygoers (400 for an earlier family dinner and 400 for the adult party). Early estimates of $15,000 were raised for the two organizations. Mark’s wife Mo (during normal hours a preschool teacher) served dinner with a smile on her face and a sticker that read, “First one to complain leaves with a blood stain.” I think I know a few district teachers who have that tattooed on their arms. Speaking of school district, the daughter of former district superintendent Robert Stannard, Carrie Devlin and her husband Stan were found wandering the warehouse dressed as a Scottish lass and kilted warrior (authentic, traditional way to wear a kilt. No comments on his shortcomings.)
The grand event of the evening was announced by the evening’s MC, Chad Chastain (brother of the famed soccer player, Brandi). Muni Fry (owner of the arena football team the Sabercats) and Chastain blew away the political teams of Dennis Kennedy, Larry Carr and Greg Sellers, although a hip replacement is in the works for Fry.
Organizers promise longer tracks and more celebrities for next year’s race.
Four stars for the haunted house and the gory effects. Watch your ankles!
Ciao for now.
