in south San Jose.
Four people, including a Morgan Hill man, were injured and a San Jose teen was arrested on suspicion of DUI after a traffic accident in south San Jose.
About 3:15 a.m. Sunday, a 2000 Mitsubishi and a 2003 Toyota were stopped on the shoulder of northbound U.S. 101 just north of Metcalf Road, according to a press release from the California Highway Patrol. The driver of the Mitsubishi, a 29-year-old Milpitas man, was helping the driver of the Toyota, a 23-year-old San Jose woman, repair a flat tire.
A third vehicle, a 2001 Mercedes, was traveling north and veered off the road and collided with the Mitsubishi, which was stopped behind the Toyota, police said. The impact forced the Mitsubishi into the Toyota.
The woman was standing between the two parked vehicles, and suffered major injuries including a severed leg, police said. Her passenger, a 23-year-old Morgan Hill man who was also outside the vehicle, suffered head injuries. They were both transported to San Jose Regional Hospital.
The Milpitas man suffered internal bleeding and major head injuries, police said. And the 18-year-old driver of the Mercedes suffered a fractured ankle and other moderate injuries, according to police. They were both transported to Valley Medical Center.
The driver of the Mercedes was arrested on suspicion of felony DUI and was later booked into Santa Clara County Jail, police said.
The CHP has not yet released the names of those involved in the accident.
