Police closed off a few square blocks around the intersection of Fourth and Church streets earlier this afternoon after a motorcycle slammed into an SUV.
The SUV, traveling east on Fourth Street, had stopped at Church Street and then entered the intersection before the bike – which did not have a stop sign – crashed into the vehicle’s side, flipped 180 degrees and then launched the biker a short distance from the intersection, according to Gilroy Police Department Sgt. John Sheedy. A skid mark led up to the intersection Tuesday afternoon as police officers mopped up spilled oil from the crumpled bike that had been towed away.
No drugs or alcohol appeared to be involved, Sheedy said, and an ambulance transported the biker to a nearby hospital for emergency treatment, but he appeared to be fine. A representative for Saint Louise Regional Hospital did not immediately return a message.
