A rogue motorcyclist was arrested this afternoon outside Christopher High School after he led police on a high speed chase through rural Gilroy.

About noon, an aircraft conducting speed enforcement surveillance over southbound U.S. 101 north of Morgan Hill spotted a gray motorcycle traveling at about 85 mph, said CHP Officer Jaime Rios. The driver refused to yield to ground units that were dispatched in the area.

“We got behind him and he just keeps going,” Rios said. “The mentality of a lot of motorcyclists is that they can just outrun us.”

The driver exited U.S. 101 at Masten Avenue and continued to try to outrun police.

The man, whose name Rios did not immediately have available, did manage to temporarily escape the cruisers, but the aircraft observation overhead.

CHP contacted Gilroy Police who set up a roadblock at the intersection of Day Road West and Cougar Court in front of Christopher High School and apprehended the man about 12:40 p.m., Rios said.

No one was injured during the chase.

Officers warn motorcyclists against trying to outrun the police.

“They think ‘I don’t have to stop. I can just outrun you,'” Rios said of speeding motorcyclists. “If you’re thinking about it, you better think twice. If we have our helicopter or plane, you’re not going to outrun us.”
