She was 95.
Mrs. Contreras was born on Dec. 25, 1908, in Torreon, Mexico, the daughter of Roman and Tomasa Olvera. She came to California in 1916 and was raised in Los Angeles.
She then went to Arizona from 1937 to 1944. She married Anito Contreras in 1939 and they lived all over California. They came to Wasco in 1986. She was a good cook, making just anything, and canning fruit and vegetables. She loved to sew and read her bible.
She read and wrote perfect English and Spanish.
She is survived by her sons, Longino Gonzales and wife Margie of Shafter, and Florencio Contreras of Bakersfield; Anito Contreras and wife Rosemarie of Hollister; and Ezequiel Contreras and wife Irene of Gilroy; daughters, Paula Contreras of Santa Cruz; and Dolores Espinoza and husband Henry of Wasco; sisters, Lupe Servin and Tomasa Rios, both of Phoenix, Ariz.; Agustina Munoz of Wasco; and Maria Munoz of Shafter; 25 grandchildren, 56 great-grandchildren and 10 great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Anito Contreras on Jan. 9, 1994 and daughter Henrietta Trevino in July 1990.
Funeral services were conducted by Peters Funeral Home of Wasco, on Friday, July 16. John Fluetsch officiated and internment followed at Wasco Memorial Park.
The Holy Rosary was recited at Peters Funeral Home Chapel.
