A six-hour stalemate turned a Gilroy neighborhood into a scene of blaring megaphones and flashing police lights Wednesday night, as officers used a SWAT team, bomb squad robot and hostage negotiators to coax out an armed, wanted parolee holed up in the attic belonging to a family he barely knew.

Council approves $770K for youth center
The Gilroy City Council on Monday approved more than $770,000 worth of improvements to the Gilroy Community Youth Center, which include resurfacing the center's basketball courts and constructing disabilities-compliant restrooms and picnic areas.
Eyesore update: Graffitied bridge removed
In June, the Eyesore of the Week identified the bridge that spanned from an abandoned brewery across the railroad tracks off 10th Street and Monterey Road as a sight for sore eyes due to graffiti and peeling paint.
